Video from Rocksteady in Montreal now up!
I've uploaded seven videos from the "Rocksteady: the Roots of Reggae" concert at the recent Montreal Jazz Festival. This was a rocksteady (and ska and reggae) reunion with original session players to celebrate the launch of the film by the same name. Check the footage out in the video bar on the lower right. You can also see them here: http://www.youtube.com/user/tiptopsound.

Father Peckings: Your Legacy is Safe!

Most collectors know by now that the Peckings label, along with the brilliant Manila Jeepney label, is one of the handful of labels that is releasing quality reggae the way it was meant to be. Take a look at the new Peckings 45 release from Courtney John called "Lucky Man":
George 'Peckings' Price was a longtime friend of Coxsone Dodd and served as Dodd's main UK distributor after moving to England in the 1960's. In 1974 he opened his famous record store at 81 Askew Rd. in London's Shepherd Bush neighborhood. Sadly George Price passed away in 1994, but his legacy has been kept alive by his son Chris who runs the Peckings label and has scored hits with Bitty Mclean, and Lady Lex while utilizing original rocksteady and reggae riddims cut by Duke Reid.
